Sony is pulling an awesome Emperor’s New Clothes maneuver, issuing a statement to the press that they’re working hard to meet the raging demand for PS3s. Rather than laying low and avoiding reporters altogether, Sony execs have decided to go with the power of positive thinking.

That’s the message coming out this week out of Sony, which has been on the defensive again after revealing that it was replacing hardware from the PS2 currently included in US and Japanese PS3s with software emulation.
Jack Tretton, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, has said that Sony will indeed ship 2 million PS3 units throughout North America by the end of March. He also said that any PS3 shortages would be eased by this May.

Most likely thanks to the stupendous launch of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd, the PSP has seen a significant boost in hardware sales this week, beating out both the PS3 and Wii combined. According to VGcharts.org, the PSP sold 96,750 systems in the previous week, an increase of 187%.
